Joe Manchin Proposes Replacing Slave Ownership With Lease-To-Own Program To End Civil War

The emancipation debate took an interesting turn this week when Senator Manchin withdrew his opposition to freeing the slaves. Shortly after the announcement, the Senator released a list of proposals he suggests as likely to meet the overriding goal of not hurting anyone’s feelings.

“As a matter of principle, I simply cannot consider abolishing slavery without cooperation from people invested in slavery,” stated the extremely reasonable, moderate centrist from West Virginia. “We need to free the slaves — and I’m committed to doing that — but we need to do it harmoniously, and in a way that respects both sides.”
